On August 29, the State Language Protection Commissioner Taras Kremin met with Peter Van De Velde, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belgium to Ukraine.
The Commissioner congratulated Mr. Ambassador on the start of his diplomatic mission in Ukraine and expressed hope for the deepening of Ukrainian-Belgian relations in the humanitarian sphere in particular. Taras Kremin introduced key areas of his activity to Peter Van De Velde and the activity carried out by the Secretariat of the Commissioner implementing the Law of Ukraine "On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as the State Language" since August 2020.
The Commissioner also thanked the Ambassador for Ukraine’s support by the language institutions of Belgium - Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles and Nederlandse Taalunie in obtaining the status of an associate member in the European Federation of National Institutions for Language (EFNIL) in March this year.
"In this difficult time for Ukraine, the support of our international partners, in particular the leading language institutions of Europe, is very important to us. Membership in EFNIL will give Ukraine the opportunity to form a strategy for the establishment of the Ukrainian language as the future language of the EU. After all, the language front today is one of the key areas in our state", - Taras Kremin emphasized.
Representative of the Commissioner Andrii Vitrenko also joined the meeting.
