Within the next few years no changes in the Law of Ukraine "On Ensuring the Functioning of Ukrainian as the State Language" may be made. This was stated in the interview with "Censor.net" («ЦЕНЗОР.НЕТ») by the Commissioner for Protection of State Language Taras Kremin.
According to the Commissioner, currently the Secretariat teams up with those MPs who understand the value and importance of the language law. "We succeed and I believe we will keep on upholding our main principles. Principle one: no changes in the law maybe made in the coming years. Secondly, the issue of the state language is the national security issue. And thirdly, the Ukrainian language is the foundation for the constitutional order. Therefore, every attempt to undermine the language legislation is an attempt to attack the national security and national defense", - Taras Kremin said.
As for those legislative initiatives directed at the language law – either concerning the abolition of fines or the cancellation of switching the Russian-language schools to the Ukrainian language of studying – this is the politics. "These are political viruses intended mostly for mass media and aimed at those people who have no antibodies to such speculations. But the great majority understands that this is populism and nothing more. I do not know what the political forces dealing with this issue will gain from that. This is the politics, the struggle and the search of the best arguments", - Taras Kremin stressed.
