The criminal policy of the linguocide of the Ukrainian language has continued since the occupation by russia of the Crimea as well as part of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. This was told by the State Language Protection Commissioner Taras Kremin.
Crimes, related to the displacement of the Ukrainian language from all spheres of public life that russia has committed in the occupied territories since 2014 in the Crimea, in the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, have continued in Sumy, Kherson, Kharkiv, etc. since 2022. This practice is not new," he said.
According to Taras Kremin, on the eve of the new academic year, the crimes of russian invaders in the sphere of education became even more cruel. They continue to burn books, and textbooks, take out our children, and deport teachers; in fact, every 10th school is destroyed. Therefore, the beginning of the new academic year will be difficult, but the Ukrainian state is ready for this," he said.
Taras Kremin reminded that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Secretariat of the Commissioner has documented the facts of the linguocide and transmited relevant information to law enforcement agencies and human rights organizations.
"We continue to systematize the existing facts of crimes of linguocide, which we will present to our international partners at the next General Assembly of the European Federation of National Institutions for Language (EFNIL)," the Commissioner said, stressing that everyone, involved in these crimes, should be punished.
