On the eve of the new academic year, russian invaders continue to commit a systematic educational linguocide aimed at suppressing the Ukrainian language and cultural identity in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
The occupation authorities provide total control over educational institutions and change the content of curricula with deviations from Ukrainian history and culture grounding on russian propaganda.
These changes covered all levels of education - from preschool, and extracurricular to higher schools. First of all, there is an impact on such key educational subjects of the formation of national identity as Ukrainian language, Ukrainian literature, and history of Ukraine. The prohibition of the use of the Ukrainian language in teaching and the destruction of our schools leads to the abandonment of the native language, the loss of connection with the national heritage, and further russian and rushist assimilation.
The occupation authorities are actively imposing the russian curriculum. In particular, on the basis of the Dmytro Motornyi Tavria State Agrotechnological University, united with Berdyansk State Pedagogical University and Bogdan Khmelnitsky Melitopol State Pedagogical University, they created their own "Melitopol State Universitet named after A.S. Makarenko". For the destruction of Ukrainian education and the displacement of the Ukrainian language in this “ghost” university:
the Department of Ukrainian Language and the Center for Studying the Ukrainian Language were eliminated;
pedagogical workers were inclined to calobaration activity;
the Ukrainian-language literature was taken out of libraries;
"enemy" books, magazines, scientific publications, including materials of all-Ukrainian scientific conferences "Dontsov Readings", archives of the research center named after D. Dontsov, almanacs of modern Ukrainian Cossacks were burnt etc.;
the signs at university and dormitories were changed from Ukrainian into russian.
As the State Language Protection Commissioner noted, the linguocide of the rushists in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine is a gross violation of the right to receive information and educational services in the Ukrainian language.
"Such a practice requires the appropriate response of our law enforcement agencies and the international community to protect the rights of Ukrainian citizens. The Secretariat of the Commissioner continues to collect the facts of linguocide and transfer them to law enforcement agencies, and human rights organizations. Everyone who wants to impose their language on Ukrainians, introduce repressions against Ukrainians on the basis of language, will be punished!" he said.
Among the crimes of the occupiers in the field of education it is worth noting the following:
forced transition to education in accordance with russian standards;
replacement of Ukrainian educational materials by russian ones;
forced retraining and replacement of the teaching staff with "loyal" to the new occupation regime of collaborators;
restriction of study and prohibition of the Ukrainian language;
introduction into the educational process elements of occupation military training (cadet schools, "Youth Army", etc.);
conducting educational activities in educational institutions aimed at justifying the russian invasion and distorting the history of Ukraine;
theft of multimedia equipment, computer equipment, transport, furniture, and other property from schools, colleges and universities.
