According to Article 10 of the Constitution of Ukraine, Ukrainian is the only state language in Ukraine. This was emphasized by the State Language Protection Commissioner of Ukraine Taras Kremin on-air of "Priamyi" TV channel commenting on the statement of the President’s spokesperson regarding the "Ukrainian Russian language".
The Commissioner reminded that Volodymyr Zelenskyi had said at the All-Ukrainian Forum “Ukraine 30” three weeks before that Ukrainian was the only one official language in our country and the best conditions should be created for it.
"If we continue his words, the law on language should be implemented and it should work effectively. So, by the end of the year, the state program for the development and mastery of the Ukrainian language should appear, as it is defined by the Government’s strategy for 2021. At the same time we’ve got the words of the President’s spokesperson today. I have a simple question: who are we orienting towards now?", - he said.
"I do not support such statements and I consider they have no prospects. Article 10 of the Constitution of Ukraine, which is 25 this year, specifies that Ukrainian is the only state language in Ukraine", - Taras Kremin emphasized.
The Commissioner considers that the issue of language in Ukraine should be closed once for all. "We’ve got the Law "On Ensuring the Functioning of Ukrainian as the State Language", the education system, the state authority that should promote the development and functioning of Ukrainian as the state language. After all, we have some external threats that should be taken into account", - Taras Kremin noted.
The Commissioner pointed out that now Ukraine must effectively deal with the state language policy while creating better conditions for the information protection as well.
"Let’s remember that the protection of language is also the protection of national interests, of foundations of the constitutional order".
