Today, on March 25, the State Language Protection Commissioner of Ukraine Taras Kremin took part in an online meeting of members of the European Federation of National Institutions for Language at the invitation of its leadership and with the assistance of the British Council in Ukraine. It was dedicated to new projects in the field of research of language legislation and use of the language in the activities of government organizations and public administration. As a special guest Ukraine was invited to participate in such a meeting for the first time in the history of EFNIL.
Taras Kremin presented to the participants of the meeting the key areas in which he and the Secretariat of the State Language Protection Commissioner of Ukraine carry out activities on protecting the language legislation, elaborating state projects and development programs and functioning of Ukrainian as the state language. In addition, the Commissioner noted that in the last few months a considerable amount of meetings had been held with the EFNIL member organizations and representatives of diplomatic missions of the countries represented in the organization for the purpose of learning the best language practices to improve legislation on protection of the state language and develop the state language policy.
Taras Kremin thanked the EFNIL leadership for supporting Ukraine’s efforts to become an associate member of the organization.
"It is important for us to understand that the organization’s doors are open for Ukraine and that we will soon be able to join the friendly family of European language institutions addressing the issues of sharing good practices in state languages monitoring, elaborating recommendations in legislative environment and developing the state language policy in the EU and other European countries," - Taras Kremin mentioned.
