The Commissioner for Protection of State Language Taras Kremin met with the Deputy Head of the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine Olena Lytvynenko. The parties discussed cooperation and development of joint project activity formats.
Taras Kremin outlined the main tasks facing him and the Secretariat of the Commissioner in terms of the implementation of the Law of Ukraine "On Ensuring the Functioning of Ukrainian as the State Language", told about the work done in the direction of borrowing experience and strengthening cooperation with the European partners united in the European Federation of National Institutions for Language (EFNIL). "There is no doubt that in the not so distant future Ukraine will become a member of the European Union, and therefore we are already doing our best to ensure the rightful place for the Ukrainian language in the language environment of its member states," -Taras Kremin said.
For her part, Ms. Lytvynenko expressed readiness to cooperate in terms of expert and advisory support from the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine in the projects of common interest, as well as in certain issues related to the monitoring of provision of language rights of the citizens, including the representatives of national minorities and indigenous people of Ukraine, in particular in the temporarily occupied territory.
