The language front is not a field for battles, but new opportunities to assert our values, identity, and winning spirit. Therefore, in the conditions of a full-scale war against a terrorist country, there should be no discussions regarding the Language Law. Taras Kremin, the State Language Protection Commissioner said for "Hromadske Radio".
“At conditions of war, there must be strict observance by citizens of the Law "On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as the State Language", which acts in accordance with Article 10 of the Constitution of Ukraine, the decision of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, as well as the will of the Ukrainian nation, which demands the observance and protection of its rights”, Taras Kremin noted.
"Regardless of what position a citizen of Ukraine holds - a civil servant, a teacher, or a doctor - everyone is obliged to comply with the Language Law. I am convinced that the russian federation's full-scale war against Ukraine has set all the accents," Taras Kremin stated.
The Сommissioner emphasized that the Ukrainian language was becoming more common. But in order for the dynamics to be comforting, everyone must learn or be able to protect their language rights. If it is not possible to resolve the situation on the spot, if you are openly rude or insulted, do not be lazy to send properly formatted complaints to the Commissioner's Secretariat.
"To protect the language front during the war is to unite society around the main values. In the 1990s, as in later years, the "language issue" was made the subject of political speculation. Such phenomena as the anti-constitutional Law "On the principles of state language policy", which undermined the foundations of statehood, have no place in history.
“In Odesa, in Lviv, in Kharkiv, and in my native Mykolaiv, the approaches are the same - speaking Ukrainian means protecting national interests. Therefore, the media space, the names of streets and cities, communication between officials, operational messages from the front, information about the rehabilitation of our military and international military, and diplomatic support should be heard exclusively by the state," Taras Kremin said.
At the same time, the Commissioner reminded that the Language Law does not apply to the sphere of private communication, although many citizens chose Ukrainian to speak at home.
