On September 9, the State Language Protection Commissioner Taras Kremin met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova to Ukraine Valeriu Chiveri. The parties exchanged with the views on current issues of the countries' language policy, opportunities to exchange experience in the field of language legislation implementation.
Taras Kremin familiarized the Ambassador with the key areas of his activity and the tasks facing him and the Secretariat of the Commissioner for the Implementation of the Law of Ukraine "On Ensuring the Functioning of Ukrainian as the State Language".
Besides, the language ombudsman focused on the research conducted by his institution on the issue of linguocide in the occupied territories. According to him, the facts of language crimes of the occupiers collected by the Secretariat will be included in the case of Ukraine against the Russian Federation in the ECtHR.
The Commissioner also thanked Ambassador Chiveri for the support provided by the Government of his country to meet the educational and language needs of Ukrainians in Moldova, especially in the context of a large-scale wave of almost half a million of our citizens who moved to Ukraine’s neighbor after the beginning of russia's full-scale aggression against Ukraine.
The meeting also was joined by Andrii Vitrenko, representative of the State Language Protection Commissioner of Ukraine.
