In all border regions of Ukraine, it is extremely important to adopt local programs for the development and functioning of the Ukrainian language as the state language. This was emphasized by the State Language Protection Commissioner Taras Kremin.
“The emergence of local language programs in the southern, eastern, and northern regions of Ukraine is extremely important. Today, not all border regions, that are in the neighborhood to the russian invaders, have introduced such effective steps. For example, in Sumy and Chernihiv regions there are no such programs yet," he said, expressing hope that such documents will appear there within a few weeks or one month.
Taras Kremin is convinced that the implementation of local programs for the development and functioning of the state language will contribute to overcoming the language barrier, to the implementation of the Law of Ukraine "On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as the State Language" and to the creation of the necessary basis for the final consolidation of Ukrainian in all spheres of public life.
The Commissioner also reminded that in Ukraine there’re more than 450 free platforms for learning the Ukrainian language. “Unfortunately, today there are no state courses, but there are municipal initiatives, proposals of local self-government bodies, and public organizations. This year, more than 450 locations in all parts of Ukraine – ranging from the village to the regional centers and the capital - help hundreds of thousands who want to learn the Ukrainian language or improve their language skills," he said.
