The Commissioner appealed to the heads of regional military administrations regarding the need to create additional opportunities for mastering the state language by residents of the region and internally displaced persons.
The Commissioner reminded that according to the Language Law, the status of the Ukrainian language as the only state language stipulates that it must be used throughout Ukraine and every citizen of Ukraine is obliged to speak the state language.
"The war hastened the rejection of the use of the occupier's language. The demand for professional assistance in mastering and improving the knowledge of the Ukrainian language is growing rapidly” Taras Kremin said, addressing the heads of regions.
Therefore, according to him, the creation of conditions for the functioning of numerous free Ukrainian language courses, speaking clubs, various educational projects for all comers, and, above all, for internally displaced persons are among the important tasks for the state and local government, for every citizen.
The Commissioner is convinced that the effectiveness of work to promote the acquisition of the state language depends on the activity of local authorities, the involvement of local communities in this work, and the responsibility of its leaders.
"Coordination of the work of government and local councils will guarantee the achievement of results: the scope of the state language will be significantly expanded, its unifying function will be strengthened and the level of language's mastering will be increased," he said.
According to Taras Kremin, the adoption of appropriate regional and local programs, that will open new opportunities for every citizen to improve their state language skills, and protect their language rights in all spheres of public life, can be an effective step in organizing systematic work on mastering the state language.
