The Law of Ukraine "On Ensuring the Functioning of Ukrainian as the State Language" protects the right of a citizen to receive information or servicesin the state language. This was stated by the Commissioner for Protection of State Language Taras Kremin during theprogram “Public Wave”.
"Now,probably for the first time in almost 30 years of Ukrainian independence,we really feel the protection of the state language. And, in fact, this law contributes to this. I believe that the service sector’s switchingtoUkrainian since January 16, 2021 is a historic event that will definitely improve not only the quality of services but also influence on the development and functioning of the state language", - Taras Kremin mentioned.
The Commissioner emphasizes the need to adopt a state program for the development and acquisition of the state language.
"For sure,we would be happy already to have a state program for the development and acquisition of the state language, along with the entry into force of this norm.Indeed, demanding frompeople to have a sufficient level of the state language proficiency, it is necessary to create optimum conditions for this - at the level of providing the educational services, media, local governments, regional programs to promote the state language acquisition, free Ukrainian language courses. As the Commissioner, I am ready to promote the appearance of any document necessary for this - a concept or a program that will beaimed at strengthening the role and status of the Ukrainian language in the state", - Taras Kremin said.
