The online meeting of the State Language Protection Commissioner of Ukraine Taras Kremin with the Director of the Ukrainian World Congress Mission to Ukraine Serhiy Kasyanchuk took place.
The parties discussed a new stage of implementation of the Law of Ukraine "On Ensuring the Functioning of Ukrainian as the State Language" which is to begin on July 16, 2021.
The UWC reaffirmed its position on the unacceptability of new legislative attacks on the language law stating that it cannot be allowed to postpone the entry into force of norms of the law on obligatory film screening in Ukrainian and holding cultural and artistic events in the state language.
The UWC expects that from July 16, as defined by Articles 23 and 26 of the Language Law, there really will be more books, excursions, films, etc. in Ukrainian.
In addition, during the meeting the issues of public diplomacy, including the sports one during the upcoming Olympic Games, reintegration of Ukrainians living abroad and possible certification for the level of state language proficiency of teachers of Ukrainian educational institutions abroad were discussed.
"We expect that an updated version of the State Program of Cooperation with Ukrainians Living Abroad is about to appear with which we need to strengthen our communication. It is equally important to attract foreign students of Ukrainian origin to study at domestic universities through various educational programs", - Taras Kremin mentioned.
"Enhanced cooperation with Ukrainians living abroad at the level of language diplomacy is one of the key elements of our cooperation with the UWC", - Taras Kremin emphasized.
