Each official had three years to improve own language skills at the appropriate level, to translate official website and pages in own social networks (Telegram channel, Youtube, Facebook, etc.) into the state language. It was stated by the State Language Protection Commissioner Taras Kremin on the air of "Ukrainian Radio", discussing the implementation of parts 2 and 6 of Article 27 of the Law "On Ensuring the Functioning of Ukrainian as the State Language", which came into force on July 16, 2022 - three years later when the language of the Law itself began to work.
"Among other things, those who provide Ukrainian citizens with goods and services also had three years to Ukrainianize their user interfaces (televisions, computers, mobile phones, cars, irons, etc.), to translate Internet sites, including the sites of business entities that are registered in Ukraine and that sell goods and services in Ukraine. The same applies to enterprises, institutions, state organizations, communal forms of ownership, state authorities, and local self-government. Three years was enough for that," Taras Kremin noted.
We remind you that Article 27 regulates the use of the Ukrainian language on the Internet and in the interfaces of computer programs of goods.
The Commissioner emphasized that during the three years of the Language Law the level of mastery of the Ukrainian language has increased, what's unprecedented for all the years of independence.
"This is evidenced by the expanded network of free Ukrainian language courses, local programs for the development and mastery of the state language, as well as the demands of Ukrainian citizens in various areas to provide them with information about goods and services in the state language. After February 24, language became one of the most important markers of our identity. Today, the mass transition to the Ukrainian language is fateful and establishes us as a nation," Taras Kremin said.
According to the Commissioner, on the eve of the new stage of implementation of the Language Law, explanatory letters were sent to the heads of all regional military administrations, heads of state and communal enterprises, organizations, etc. to remind them of the specifics of the application of fines for violations of language legislation since July 16, 2022.
